Mr Rakesh Jayaswal on BBC Radio 4
LaserVision’s Rakesh Jayaswal was featured on BBC Radio 4 earlier this week sharing his insight and answering questions on cataract surgery.
Read moreA highly trained, full time consultant eye surgeon based at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth, Mr Jayaswal practices from a variety of hospitals in the South East.
Having trained initially in general surgery, he then commenced his ophthalmic training with a lecturers’ post at the University of Sheffield. He gained further experience in training posts based in St. Georges Hospital, London and the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. After completing his training to become a consultant, Rakesh then undertook specialist fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery at the world famous Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
Appointed in 2009 to his consultant post, Mr Jayaswal has led the corneal service, introducing many new techniques, including lamellar and endothelial corneal transplants and the latest innovative techniques for the treatment of keratoconus. He specialises in the treatment of complex corneal and anterior segment disease as well as cataract and refractive surgery.
He is a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London and the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, and a member of the American and European Society of Refractive Surgeons. He has several papers in peer review journals and has presented in over 30 national and international meetings over the years.
My Jayaswal is a highly regarded peer and has given presentations at many industry events and conferences including the American Academy of Ophthalmologists, Royal College of Ophthalmologists, EuCornea, European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons, Royal Society of Medicine, London, ARVO, EVER, Oxford Congress and at the UK & Eire Glaucoma Society Meeting.
